FitSeal

On an average, 41,000 root canal therapies (RCT) are conducted daily in the United States, with only 72% being performed by general dentists. The remaining patients opt for skilled endodontists to ensure higher success rates. Root canal treatment involves cleaning, disinfecting, and filling the root canal. However, conventional endodontic sealers used for filling the root canal space have two primary limitations: shrinkage, leading to detachment of filling materials from the canal walls, and solubility, causing "washing-out" of sealers. Both shrinkage and washing-out can create gaps inside and between the filling material and canal walls, promoting microbial colonization and reinfection, ultimately resulting in treatment failure. In fact, substandard root canal fillings are responsible for 65% of endodontic failures.

The proposed innovation involves an enhanced dental biomaterial serving as an endodontic sealer, possessing a distinctive ability to expand rather than shrink. This innovation aims to address the primary cause of most endodontic failures.

Key Innovation Impact: Our biomaterial promises a safer, simpler, quicker, and more cost-effective procedure, accessible to a broader range of providers and patients. Reducing the failure rate of endodontic treatments can significantly contribute to public health by preserving more teeth. Moreover, minimizing chairside time for clinicians and ensuring ease of application with minimal training are crucial factors for the global commercialization success of this root canal sealer.

Mechanism of Action

Benefits of FitSeal

  • Ability to creep into fine irregularities of the complex canal system with adjustable viscosity

  • User friendly

  • Easy injections inside the canal

  • Filling the ramification of apical third of the root canal space

  • Expanding inside the canals irregular spaces inside the root canal space

  • Reduction of failure rate for endodontic treatments, promoting public health by saving more teeth

  • Decrease in chairside time spent by clinicians

  • Ease of application with minimum training resulting in global commercialization
